The Refreshments’ own Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers (RCPM) will be playing live in Skinner’s Pub on Oct. 8.

The doors will be opening at 7 p.m., while the show won’t begin until around 9:30 p.m. This show is for people 21-years-old and older. It costs $10 for advanced tickets and $12 the day of show. Tickets can be purchased at Skinner’s Pub.

“Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers puts on a high-energy show with great songwriting and feels like you’re on a vacation in Mexico with a bottle of tequila,” Karl Steege, general manager of Skinner’s, said.

RCPM is from Arizona and ranges from playing bars to hosting their own festival in Rocky Point, Mexico. They first came to play in Brookings around 10 years ago and have been coming back consistently, even playing Bash in the Grass, a festival once based near Brookings.

“RCPM is one of the best live acts on stage I have seen,” Steege said.

The easiest way to sample their music is to watch King of the Hill, because RCPM created the theme song.

“I am excited to see them at Skinner’s because they are a good band and Skinner’s is a fun bar,” Lance Howard, a junior in economics, said. “It should make for an excellent night.”

“The times before [Rodger Clyne and the Peacemakers] have played Skinner’s, they bring in around 200 people,” said Steege. “Around 75 people are from out of town and follow the road trip to see the show. There is a cult-like following to this band.”

The band’s new CD, No More Beautiful Word, marks over 12 years of work creating 11 CDs and five Top-10 Billboard albums. Two albums were number one hits.

Caleb Burch, a junior in biology, saw the show the last time the band in Brookings. “[RCPM] was a good show,” he said. “I didn’t know much about them, but a friend took me to the show and I enjoyed it. They were all very talented musically and played with the audience. It was worth it going and their unique sound is incomparable and is really enjoyable.”

RCPM has opened for many bands including John Fogerty, Willie Nelson, Barenaked Ladies, Live, Blues Traveler and Sammy Hagar.

The Pink Floyd Experience (PFX) is playing at the Swiftel Center on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m.

PFX is a six-person band that plays and expands the music of the legendary British rock band Pink Floyd. According to sroartists.com they perform a two-hour show with over $2.5 million of production equipment on stage. There is also a massive light show, a moving truss and a 12-foot long pig blimp that flies over the audience and balconies in final homage to Pink Floyd’s most familiar image.

Doug Martin, a global studies junior, said, “I hope to see a couple of tracks off The Dark Side of the Moon album. But I also want to see how they will incorporate a light show with the music.”

Jake Langland, a Brookings native, also said he would be going to the show. However, Langland is a little bit skeptical about seeing a Pink Floyd cover band. “If it isn’t what Pink Floyd would sound like, hopefully the light show will compensate for the music,” he said.

This year PFX’s fall tour begins on Sept. 19 in Denver, Co. They continue east through Brookings on to Van Wert, OH.

“I am a little bit surprised to see a Pink Floyd cover band come to Brookings,” Martin said. “It’s new for Brookings and could be good (for Brookings) to bring in classic rock.”

“Many of my friends are going to the show,” he added, “and they all look forward to watching some good rock and roll.”

Langland agreed with Martin and said, “Hopefully we might see some new bands coming around here.”

Travis Berkland, a mechanical engineering junior, is excited for the show. “This is great being able to see (PFX) because it is a chance to see one of the greatest rock bands ever. Pink Floyd doesn’t tour themselves besides individual members of the band going solo.”
