Spring Break Softball Season Opening

South Dakota State University’s softball team is prepping up for one last season in Division II and planning to lay a solid foundation for their future in Division I. Last season ended with their 26-32 overall standing, but this season carries much potential for the team with six new recruits.

Baseball Season to Start Soon

South Dakota State University’s Baseball team is batting up for a better season in hopes to improve their 14-29 overall record last year. “To be a baseball coach you have to be optimistic every season,” SDSU’s Baseball Coach Mark Ekeland said. “We had a young group of players,” he said last season.

In 1998, the NCAA established a weight management program to eliminate wrestlers from weight control practices that could potentially risk their health or even cause death. According to the NCAA, in a span of 33 days, three wrestlers died while engaging in rapid weight loss practices in late 1997, by wearing rubber suits and exercising vigorously in saunas.

SDSU’s junior forward Shannon Schlagel will be the 23rd woman in SDSU historyto score 1,000 points in her basketball career. Schlagel was named North Central’s Conference Player of the Week last Monday. She is the leading scorer for the Lady Jack’s averaging 17.

Co-Rec Basketball Season Begins

SDSU’s Co-Recreational Intramural’s Basketball teams are in full swing as of last Mon., Oct. 27. While some teams are out there just to have fun, others are out there to kick some butt on the court. Junior Kari Wessel, Team Manager of “Wheels,” has brought her team to their first victory for the start of the season.
