Every time I hear the left talk about global warming, I am reminded of the story of Chicken Little.

Liberals are doing more damage by opening their mouths and expounding hot air than you driving your SUV to the hardware store to buy an incandescent light bulb will ever do.

It is arrogant to believe and preach to the people that man has the ability to destroy the Earth. And now we’re being told we can somehow miraculously resurrect the Earth by buying fluorescent light bulbs? Come on. It is beyond belief to think that we humans can destroy something so vast as the Earth. The earth is too powerful to be destroyed by people. How full of ourselves are we to think we are actually capable of such a thing?

There is so much of this planet that we don’t even know about and haven’t even explored. It’s ridiculous to think the last hundred years alone have been so detrimental to the survival of the planet, completely ignoring the billions of years that have gone on before the last hundred. Greenhouse gasses actually grow plants; it all balances out. Funny how the Earth seems to be able to take care of itself.

Here’s an inconvenient truth: It is hard to take these people seriously when we are coming off one of the coldest winters in recent memory.

What regulatory measures should be placed on media reporting the news of the day? That question, without a doubt, would garner one answer and one answer only: No regulatory measures should be placed on the media reporting the news of the day. That question is no different than the one posed about gun control by The Collegian this week.

To place regulatory measures on owning, carrying and using guns is intrinsically wrong and wholly unconstitutional. Just because it is listed as the Second Amendment does not mean that it is less important than the Freedom of the Press or any other right. The Founding Fathers realized this when they put it in the Constitution.

Now before you go and brand me a right-wing nut-job, realize that there are laws on the books regulating handguns. The federal Gun Control Act of 1968, which is still in effect today, requires that all dealers be licensed, fill out forms detailing each trade and avoid selling to people prohibited from owning guns such as minors, ex-felons and drug users. Buyers must provide identification and sign waivers attesting to their ability to possess guns. The laws in place are good, and it is more of an issue of enforcing current laws rather than wasting time and precious tax money creating new laws and resolutions that are going to further infringe on our constitutional rights.

Look at South Dakota. It has the one of the lowest murder rates in the entire country and it also has one of the highest per capita gun ownership rates in the country. On the other hand, Washington, D.C., is the only area of the country to completely outlaw guns, but also had the highest murder rate in the country. This is not just a coincidence.

Guns save lives – it’s a fact. Americans use guns for defensive purposes 2.5 million times a year. It is estimated that if all states allowed citizens to carry concealed weapons, 1,500 murders, 4,000 rapes, 11,000 robberies and 60,000 aggravated assaults would be avoided yearly (Siegel, “Criminology: Theories, Patterns, and Typologies”).

More gun control legislation is never going to reduce the number of people who are shot each year, just like prohibition did not prevent the use of alcoholic beverages and laws do not eliminate prostitution, pornography or drugs. The only thing additional gun control would do is take the gun away from law-abiding citizens, leaving guns only in the hands of criminals.

President Bush has dismissed eight of the 93 U.S. attorneys. To be clear, U.S. attorneys are political appointments. These attorneys work for the executive branch. They do not work for the courts or the judicial branch of government. We should not confuse the judicial system with cabinet appointees and political appointees.

Liberals are in overdrive reporting this latest negative and clearly partisan attack (not exactly the change the Democrats campaigned on – partisan politics as usual) that they think will stick to the president. This, like many of the liberals’ previous attempts to damage the president, will fail. That being said, this is simply a non-issue. The liberals and the media seem to have forgotten that this has precedent.

The media, which currently serves as the Democrats’ own propaganda machine, have recently reported that President Bush and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales conspired to fire eight of the 93 U.S. attorneys. I am sure they did this at the urging of the Prince of Darkness himself, Karl Rove (another Teflon Bushie), and probably had secret meetings with Deep Throat.

There is one thing that the media has forgotten while they’ve been reporting this, and that is their journalistic integrity to be honest and report with fairness. You see, they are trying to make the dismissal of the eight attorneys who were underperforming a bad thing. What they do not tell you is that in 1993 President Clinton, along with Attorney General Janet Reno, fired all 93 U.S. attorneys.

The other thing the media fails to tell you is that U.S. attorneys serve at the pleasure of the president, and if the president is no longer pleased with their performance, he can let them go. But the left doesn’t quite understand that. They think everybody should serve at the pleasure of themselves. I think Dick Morris (former Clinton aide) said it best last week on one of those talking-head-in-your-face cable “news” programs, “The President could fire them if he didn’t like the color of their hair.”

A minimum wage increase sounds good coming out of the mouths of the Democratic elite and R.I.N.O.s (Republican In Name Only). But there is one thing they all forget: The negatives outweigh the positives on this issue. All around the country people are losing their jobs due to the increase in minimum wage. Call me old-fashioned, but I would rather have a job than not have a job.

The Democrats pride themselves on being the champions of the little guy. They called for the increase in the minimum wage to help the little guy make a “living wage.” I, for one, ignore this guise and see it for what it really is.

People lose jobs because employers cannot afford the drastic increases in payroll. Small businesses cannot afford to keep their employees, and it’s difficult for them to adjust to such an increase. The big businesses (like Wal-Mart) are usually the only ones who can keep up because they can afford to.

Arizona just had a new law go into effect last month, raising the minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to $6.75 per hour. A recent article in The Arizona Republic states that payroll budgets for small businesses have risen so much that they’re cutting hours, instituting hiring freezes and laying off employees. And a big chunk of those losing their jobs are high-school and college kids.

These cutbacks in staff are what the Democrats were hoping for, because it brings more people into the nanny state and lets the Democrats come to the rescue. The Democratic party cannot exist if there are no people to exploit.

People are blind to what is really going on here. For years, Democrats have talked a good talk and have never followed up on any of it. Now they can kill two birds with one stone – increase the minimum wage (which makes them look like heroes), and get more people sucking the teat of the state.

First and foremost, I would like to thank the men and women of the United States Armed Forces for their service and sacrifice so that we are able to write freely about the course of action in Iraq.

We are winning the Global War on Terror and have been since October 2001, so forget what your professors and members of the drive-by media have been telling you.

President Bush has called for a 20,000 -troop increase to fight in the Global War on Terror. This will give us a much-needed edge over the terrorist insurgents in Iraq by giving us more eyes and ears on the ground to root out these evildoers and bring them to justice.

Although it cannot be known for sure the effects of this troop surge, one thing can be predicted for certain: It certainly will cause for some good entertainment coming from the flip-flopping mouths of the Democrat leadership, especially the presidential wannabes who cannot handle the stresses of being commander in chief.

The United States has welcomed immigrants since we became a country.

Immigrants have come here from all over the world to achieve a better life, whatever their reason for coming is: to escape poverty, to get an education or for their own personal freedom.

They’ve worked hard and have been made a better life for themselves and their families by coming here.

I love the idea of people coming here to live the American Dream.

A concern of mine, however, is that anyone who lives here should learn English. Bad things can happen when so many different languages are used in the same country.

For one, our public education system would go broke. Soon we’ll need to have each class available in four different languages.

If this continues, the division in our country will be unbearable.

Whoever wants to come to the United States, I say come, but please do so the legal way.

This country has some of the easiest immigration laws in the world. So many countries make it extremely difficult to enter their borders.

Illegal aliens entering the U.S. have become rampant.

There’s a right way and a wrong way, and currently there are around 7.5 million illegal alien workers in the US, and another 850,000 predicted for each coming year who are doing it the wrong way.

Illegal aliens are a burden to our economy. They’re paid in cash, and most of them send their money out of the country.

And there are national security concerns. With the Canadian and Mexican borders being poorly patrolled, terrorists could get in.

Some Republicans are very weak on this, for example, President Bush and Sen. John McCain.

But I have yet to see a decent plan from either party, and I hope to see the Republicans and Democrats work together to do something about it.

I am proud of the job our troops are doing in the War on Terror, and I agree with the president that we need to stay the course in Iraq. Our men and women are fighting the War on Terror, and we cannot withdraw the troops until victory is achieved.

There have been many sacrifices and lives given for many Americans and also the Iraqi people. The troops who are there should be given what they need: the money, the equipment and the support to make sure we defeat the ones who have threatened to kill us. The Democrats voted against the authorization of monies to fund the war.

This is just ridiculous. They put the troops in danger just because they’re playing politics. They don’t support the president so they won’t support the war or keeping our troops safe.

America cannot back out, because the terrorists want to kill us. We cannot leave until we have completed what we have set out to do. Our troops are overseas because the terrorists declared war on us, and we need to stick with it and make sure we win.

Activist judges are continuously writing their own laws. The timeliest example I can give just happened on Sept. 26. Earlier this year a law was passed in Kentucky forbidding protests within 300 feet of a military funeral. A federal judge, who said the protesters are protected by free speech, overturned the law this year.

What about the family and friends of the soldier who died? They should be protected from being disrupted during their time to reflect, mourn and honor the dead. This judge simply threw out the law; it’s wrong and has happened too many times.

This even happened with the big “Florida Re-count” during Bush v. Gore. The whole event should not have been so lengthy, had the Florida laws been followed. The Florida Secretary of State certified the election returns on Nov. 14, seven days after the election. But two weeks after the election (one week beyond the deadline), Gore asked for a fourth recount and the Florida Supreme Court gave it to him. Apparently, the Florida Supreme Court decided seven days means 14 days.

Activist judges have decided that our right to life guaranteed in the United States Constitution does not include unborn babies. But at the same time, Scott Peterson was charged with double murder when he killed his pregnant wife, and the woman who recently ripped her baby from her womb was also charged with murder.

The activist courts will relate anything to free speech and they will say anything is freedom of expression. Live sex shows, pornography (yes, a judge actually ruled that a law guarding children from porn on the Web violates free speech), child pornography, flag burning. It’s all “freedom of speech” and “freedom of expression.” That is, until it comes to praying in schools. It doesn’t make any sense to me.

I support the amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I completely understand that there are heartfelt differences of opinion on the issue. For me, however, and for many people, support of marriage between one man and one woman is a deeply-held value, and this belief is not hateful or discriminatory. The people who share the belief that marriage is between a man and a woman deserve equal standing in the argument over same-sex marriage.

Marriage has been the most fundamental institution of our civilization for ages upon ages, in every culture, and protecting marriage is very important to the well-being of families. This is why the state, through its elected officials, has the absolute right to strengthen and defend marriage.

Same-sex marriages are simply unnatural. If it made any sense for a man and a man or a woman and a woman to be married, then they’d be able to reproduce naturally. Noah brought one male and one female of each species on his ship so they could repopulate. He also brought his wife (not male “partner”).

The Democrats in office are making a huge mistake by being such big fans of gay marriage. But I’m happy they’re doing so.

The voters are going to vote Republican because they’re disgusted that the Democrats would support doing away with traditional marriage, and Amendment C is what’s going to bring those who will vote Republican out to the polls.

When the allied forces liberated Germany, I thought that was the end of genocide, but not even half a century later, nine men in black legalized the liquidation of America’s future under the guise of “choice.”

I’m sick of the pro-abortion people saying they’re pro-choice. It’s just a way of covering up what abortion really is. I definitely agree that a woman has every right to control her body and what she does with her body before she becomes pregnant. But once she becomes pregnant, there is another body and the parents need to take responsibility for that. Right now, our laws don’t protect that. Our Constitution guarantees us all the right to life, and our laws need to start protecting this most basic and fundamental human right.

Many people say it’s OK for a mother to murder her baby if she was raped; however, only one percent of babies are killed because of rape or incest. Even so, an abortion is not going to take away the fact that she was raped, and there are many couples waiting to adopt. An innocent child should never be punished for what someone else did.

Someday, we’ll look back at what’s happened, the millions of lives gone and the millions of mothers affected with depression, cancers and emotional problems, in horror. We’ll wonder how abortion can be kept legal for so long, when not one good thing can come out of it. Another thing to think about: the number of Jews slaughtered during the Holocaust was six million, and the number of babies slaughtered in the United States ads up to over 40 million. How can one be called genocide and not the other?

I’ve never been able to understand why liberals and democrats are pro-choice because quite frankly they’re killing off their base. Pro-lifers, you get pro-lifers. Pro-choicers, you get nothing.
