Hobo Day turns into a happy day for football team

he process may not have been pretty, but the SDSU Jackrabbit football team did the expected on Hobo Day as they defeated Missouri-Rolla 64-28 in front of 14,503 fans at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. SDSU started the game with a 44-yard kickoff return by JaRon Harris.

Men’s basketball gets first win

The SDSU men’s basketball team begins its first season in Division I with a lot of youth and a new defensive scheme both of which were evident during the Saturday, Nov. 13, exhibition game against Concordia-St. Paul as the Jacks prevailed 73-57. SDSU struggled out of the gate as the Golden Bears had a 13-6 lead five minutes into the game, but the Jacks responded with a 22-4 run that eventually resulted in a 39-27 halftime lead that they would not give up.

Jacks top Augustana, Nelson sets new touchdown pass record

The Jackrabbit football team had a heartbreaking loss and blowout defeat in the past two weeks. The team’s top receiver is out and the offensive line has struggled with injuries for most of the season. Fortunately, SDSU had the 3-7 Augustana Vikings on their schedule and a lot of players willing to fill the void.

SDSU, Augie prepare for homecoming face-off

The Jackrabbit football program will play its 91st Hobo Day Game this Saturday, Nov. 6, entering a new era as a Division I program, but facing an old rival – the Augustana Vikings – for the 61st, and possibly final, time. SDSU looks to bounce back from consecutive road defeats and finish its home schedule undefeated with a win.

Jacks fall to Montana in close game

The SDSU football squad entered its toughest two-game stretch of the season this past weekend. The Jacks suffered a 27-24 defeat at the hands of Montana State Saturday Oct. 23 in Bozeman in what may have been a preview of a future Big Sky Conference rivalry.

Bowling league provides week night fun

College bowling leagues at Prairie Lanes in Brookings offer SDSU students an opportunity to compete in a relaxed and informal manner. Two co-ed bowling leagues geared toward SDSU students are offered at the bowling alley, located near the intersection of Highway 14 and Western Avenue.

Douglass kicks in new field goal record in Western Oregon game

The University of Nebraska’s failed attempt to recruit SDSU freshman kicker Perry Douglass proved to be a loss for that school. The Jackrabbit coaching staff recognized Douglass’ talent and successfully recruited the former soccer player to be their kicker for the next four years.

Jacks win home opener 45-20

The SDSU Jackrabbit football squad bounced back from their season-opening loss Saturday night as they defeated Winona State 45-20 in front of 8,718 Cereal Bowl fans at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. “It’s good to be on the other side,” said wide receiver Brian Janecek.
