Seven suspended from Summit League tournament

Seven members of the SDSU women’s soccer team have been suspended for at least the semi-finals of the Summit League tournament for a “violation of team rules”, according to head coach Lang Wedemeyer.

Three players have been suspended the whole tournament if SDSU advances. Wedemeyer would not release the names of the players who have been suspended and would not elaborate on whether or not the violation would affect the players’ standing with the program in the future.

“The timing is as bad as it can be, we have to deal with the university and move forward, players will have to step up and have increased roles, and will try to play well and get a result on Friday,” Wedemeyer said.

The Jacks (12-5-2, 8-0-1 Summit) face Oakland in the semifinals of the tournament Friday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. ET in Rochester, Mich. SDSU clinched the number one seed for the four-team tournament and a first-round bye with a 3-1 victory over NDSU last Saturday.
