SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A June 27 hearing is planned on a request to suspend a new South Dakota abortion law while it’s being challenged in federal court.
Planned Parenthood is suing the state over a law set to take effect July 1. It would require women seeking abortions to face a three-day waiting period and to undergo counseling at pregnancy help centers that discourage abortion.
Planned Parenthood wants a judge to issue a preliminary injunction to keep the law from taking effect while the lawsuit goes forward.
The lawsuit says the law violates a woman’s constitutional right to abortion established under the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling.
