South Dakota wine industry growing

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The state Agriculture Department expects continued growth in South Dakota’s wine industry.

It says production has grown from 230 gallons in 1997 to more than 78,000 gallons last year. The department said wine production is expected to double in the next three years.

The state has 19 active farm wineries. Most of them will be at the South Dakota State Fair where consumers can sample and purchase wines.
