SDSU Common Read author under fire for alleged fabrications

The CBS news program 60 Minutes claimed that Greg Mortenson, author of the memoir Three Cups of Tea, fabricated parts of the best-selling account.

The report also questions the separation between the charity’s finances and personal finances.

Three Cups of Tea was this years’ Common Read, and Mortenson spoke at SDSU in November.

Mortenson responded to the allegations in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle.

“I stand by the story of Three Cups of Tea,” Mortenson said in a written statement, but added, “The time about our final days on K2 and ongoing journey to Korphe village and Skardu is a compressed version of events that took place in the fall of 1993.”
