A sexual assault response team (SART) is in place in Brookings County, ensuring that survivors receive immediate, accessible and comprehensive services by local trained and caring professionals. The team is known as the Eastern Plains Sexual Assault Response Team.
Here are some of the services that the Eastern Plains Sexual Assault Response Team provides:
- A specially-trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner and Victim Advocate on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- A confidential examination in a non-threatening environment
- Complete nursing assessment, including collection of legal evidence and documentation of injuries
- Emotional support, including referrals to professional counselors specially trained to discuss sexual assault
- Coordinated and collaborative responses by advocates, law enforcement, local hospital personnel and professional counselors to best meet the needs of victims of sexual assault.
