Dear Editor:
As the Board Chair for the American Red Cross, Brookings County Chapter, I have the opportunity to witness the strength of the human spirit each day. As families are celebrating this holiday season of giving, the American Red Cross would like to say a much deserved “thank you” to everyone whose contribution of time, money or blood has helped us help our neighbors, families, and loved ones in their time of need.
I see the strength in the human spirit in the actions of the numerous volunteers who work alongside American Red Cross employees when we need their help the most. It’s impossible to ignore when one sees it in the face of victims of disaster when a Red Cross worker lends them a helping hand. I see it in the dedication of health and safety instructors teaching infant CPR to new parents. I hear it in the voices of concerned community members who call to ask what they can do or give a monetary donation.
This year the American Red Cross in South Dakota has assisted individuals who were personally affected by disaster in Brookings, Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Woonsocket, Dupree, and too many others to list. Anywhere a family is in need due to disaster, the Red Cross will be there. We have also taught life-saving skills such as CPR, first aid and life guarding to 33,661 individuals. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the contributions of thousands of Americans who’ve helped the Red Cross make a difference in communities all across South Dakota and the nation. To each of you who’ve helped out your fellow Americans and our international neighbors through your contributions to the American Red Cross: Thank you.
Sincerely,
Samantha Darnall
Board Chair
