The most recent edition of The Collegian was a colossal disappointed to a few people very close to me. Note your front page of the sports this week; it features two large articles pointing out losing efforts in both football and volleyball. Inside are two separate articles highlighting soccer, one on a win and one on an upcoming conference run. As a former athlete of an unpopular sport at this school, The Collegian is our one claim to fame and hope for campus recognition. With that, why was the XC team only given a small second page article!? The men have one back-to-back conference championships! That has never been done in our men’s DI history, effectively making them one of the most successful men’s athletic team in our schools history! Instead you again feature failures in our Athletic Department on your front page. I understand that football and volleyball are moneymaking and have consistent student followings, but what does it say when you feature an in -conference, non-post season loss, over a postseason conference championship? If the football, soccer or basketball team would win a conference championship it would probably be on the front page of the entire paper! I realize that you have lots of sports to cover, and turning out a paper as fast as possible can be difficult, but when a team reaches a goal they have been striving towards all year is barely recognized, it is a slap in the face to the team and the coaches.
Sincerely,
Alex Lohr
