Last games could be good ones for Twins

Last year, the Twins won the central division by defeating the Detroit Tigers in a thrilling extra regular season game. Less then a week later the World Series Champion New York Yankees swept them 3-0 in the playoffs. Night and day compared to this year. The Twins have a genuine shot at the American League pennant and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Minnesota trails the Tampa Bay Rays by two games for the best record in the majors.

Soccer shuts out Wisconsin

The SDSU Soccer team capped a great weekend in Wisconsin with a win over Phoenix.

Football: Upsets spawn ?just win? philosophy

If there is one thing that we have learned over the first two weeks of college football, it does not matter who you play. Just win. We have already seen four FCS (formerly Division I-AA) teams beat teams from BCS conferences and the reality is that no one saw any of the wins coming. Jacksonville State’s 49-48 double-overtime upset classic at Ole Miss was probably the most exciting and unlikely of the four games, considering Jacksonville trailed by three touchdowns with only 20 minutes left.

My three cups of tea to find answers to all questions…

Throughout the day I am constantly meeting and talking with people, though to my dismay I am usually rushed by a pressing agenda. In my limited view of life experience, I have found that many times, the most beneficial conversations I have are not scheduled and do not derive from an agenda. These conversations are usually the product of coffee-fueled procrastination and have been some of the most moving conversations of my life.

Garbage Band

Reduce, reuse and recycling takes on an entirely new meaning for a musical trio from New Hampshire. One man’s trash is another man’s musical instrument? Recycled Percussion is a rock band from New Hampshire that plays to a different tune. Instead of conventional instruments, they use recycled objects such as ladders, pots, pans and 50-gallon drums as musical instruments to perform both original songs and covers of popular rock songs.

Imagine. Create. Discover.

Children’s Museum of South Dakota’s opening provides many opportunities for community kids to get hands-on learning in a variety of ways. If you find yourself traveling down Fifth Street through Brookings’ historic district, chances are you will see something that causes a double take. Outside the recently opened Children’s Museum of South Dakota stands Brookings’ very own “mama T-Rex” and her baby dino. It’s not quite like a Jurassic Park thrill ride, but spectators and drivers who are just passing by will look eye-to-eye with a 25-foot-tall replica tyrannosaurus and her 10-foot tall baby. As spectacular as the inanimate carnivores look, these are just part of the museum’s components.

Dominated in Delaware

SDSU’s match-up against a tough Delaware squad was lopsided from the start. It was a season-opening game highly anticipated by players after a delayed start to the season. It looked like they needed more time. SDSU (0-0,0-1) played a lethargic and tentative first half en route to a 20-0 first half deficit and a 26-3 loss in Newark, Del. Saturday. It was a general tentativeness and self-doubt that unfolded two interceptions and a punt in SDSU’s first three offensive possessions. It was unfavorable field position and a dominance at the line of scrimmage responsible for Delaware’s two touchdowns and a field goal.
