One-hundred eighty sleep-deprived, cranky, sore, color-coded, “jacked up” college students searching for a duck dressed as a pirate is just one of the many crazy things you might have seen during this year’s Residence Hall Association 24-hour Jacked-Up Rabbit Race. The event took place from 7 p.m. on April 16 to 7 p.m. on April 17.
The Jacked-Up race pushed students to the limit through activities like finding Waldo, hot dog eating contests, relay races and even getting a team member out of jail. Contestants were also given lists with hundreds of items to find or photograph.
Another event included writing an article for The Collegian. Students got a taste of the journalism business when they ran back to the headquarters of the race in Caldwell Hall and learned that their editor was demanding a 500 to 750 word article about the different aspects of the race, citing at least three sources.
Contestants had less than two hours to write the article and race to the Brookings Register to turn it in to the editor. The winner of the news article challenge was team Rampage, made up of students Quinnten Dietz, Arielle Slobosty, Jessie Storovich, Pierce Humke, Kayla Madler and Beau McGregor.
