Katie Budahl has made a name for herself on the women’s swimming and diving team in her two years at SDSU. At her last Summit League Championships, and possibly the last meet of her career, Budahl broke the conference record and school record in the 100 breaststroke, and she helped the 200 medley relay team break the school record on day two of the meet.

Turnovers harm women in tight conference race

Another season, another split between SDSU and Oakland. Oakland (16-12, 13-4) pulled away (17-10, 12-4) in the final minutes of the first half on Feb. 22, while the Jacks committed 27 turnovers and never caught up, losing 81-68 in Rochester, Mich. That run in the first half was a 17-3 Grizzlies scoring streak in the final minutes that gave Oakland an 11-point halftime lead.

Nagy says men ‘have to start taking care of details’

Although the Jacks had a fast start, the Golden Grizzlies came back too early, causing the men’s basketball team to lose to Oakland 88-83 on Feb. 18 and to drop back to .500. The Jacks (13-13, 9-6) ran out to an early 8-0 lead, but it didn’t last, as the Golden Grizzlies (22-8, 16-1) never trailed in the second half.

Jacks beat NDSU for first time in 13 years

“We haven’t had the season that we wanted to, but you know, if we come out and beat NDSU, that’s something that people are going to remember,” said wrestling head coach Jason Liles. And the Jacks sure turned it into something worth remembering, coming from 12 down with only three matches remaining to defeat NDSU for the first time since 1997 and win the final dual of the season.

Twelve records broken at championships

The Jackrabbit swimming and diving teams were busy breaking records in their season finale at the Summit League Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., Feb. 18 to 20. “Every year we prepare to have our best swims at championships,” said head coach Brad Erickson.

Powwow demonstrates unique dances

After taking part in the 20th Annual Wacipi Powwow grand entrance Saturday afternoon, SDSU President David Chicoine announced plans to launch an American Indian Education and Cultural Center on campus. Chicoine said the center, which will temporarily be based in the SDSU Foundation Building beginning this summer, will expand the reach of the university.

“My Dinosaur Life” shows promise, says columnist

On Jan. 19, Minneapolis-native band, Motion City Soundtrack, released their fourth studio album, “My Dinosaur Life.” In just its debut, this album appeared at No. 15 on the Billboard 200. This was also their first album released on a major record label. Motion City Soundtrack has been around for quite a while, first coming onto the scene in 1997.

Recitals show off many musical talents

Every department requires something different for seniors before they graduate. Dallas Tucker, a senior majoring in music and Spanish, will perform a recital to complete his Bachelor of Arts degree in music. “I request a date for my recital and then select music that I want to play,” said Tucker.

SDSU home to many Nepalese students

Four hundred and forty people from the SDSU community and Brookings came together Feb. 21 for Nepal Nite 2010, organized by the Nepalese Student Association (NeSA). “This is a time for learning, a time for sharing, and a time for some of us to expand our horizons,” SDSU President David Chicoine said during his opening remarks.
