Jacks win three but drop dual to Wyoming
The SDSU wrestling team competed against the Wyoming Cowboys in a Western Wrestling Conference dual on Feb. 5 in Frost Arena. The Jacks won three of the nine matches and lost with a score of 34-9. The Jacks started the day out strong though, as 149 Nick Hagar came out with a big win in the night’s first match.

Film Society highlights cultural topics at weekly film screenings
College students spend $658 million on movie theater tickets and $600 million to buy and $326 million to rent DVDs, according to Gayla Martindale of StateUniversity.com. However, SDSU students are lucky because the Film Society on campus offers movies for free.
Students donate hair to less fortunate
If students are looking to chop off some hair and donate it to a good cause, they are in luck, because UPC has decided to hold its second annual Locks of Love night. Meghan O’Connor, the community service coordinator of the event, thinks this is a great opportunity for students to get involved.
Mathematician taken ill gives story for play
Every year, the theatre department puts on a play that sets itself apart from the others. This semester, Proof is doing just that. “This show is different from other SUT (State University Theatre) productions because of the process,” said Andy Schnabel, a junior communication studies and theatre major.
Rivalry Renewed
Perhaps a few fans looked at the women’s schedule this season and saw: Mon., Feb. 15: South Dakota – Frost Arena – 7 p.m. and began looking for the right words to say, but the words never came. Speechlessness is a common side effect of overwhelming excitement.
New story in mind for rivalry
On Feb. 15, something will happen for the first time in six years. USD and SDSU will play basketball against each other. What used to be the state’s most heated rivalry will get reignited that Monday night, as the women tip off at 7:05 p.m. at Frost Arena in front of an expected sell-out and rowdy crowd.
Hoffman breaks record at Minn. meet
Alexandra Hoffman, Erin Eagen and Brad Schoreit each set school records as the SDSU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed in Minneapolis, Minn., Feb. 5 and 6. Hoffman led the way for the women’s teams. She placed sixth in the 200 freestyle in a school record time of 1 minute, 53.
Field teams dominate at Vermillion and Lincoln
It was all about the men’s and women’s field teams at the John Dalton Invitational in Vermillion Feb. 6. On the men’s side, sophomore Jared Vlastuin placed first in high jump and long jump. His jumps were 6 feet, 4 inches and 23-8 3/4. Junior Jake Brinkmann and senior Sam McInerney took the top two spots in the weight throw.
Equestrian team excels
Seniors Kaylee Mundwiler, second in open horsemanship, and Tory Ruppert, first in advanced horsemanship, head the list of the eight Western riders that qualified for the IHSA Regionals after their impressive performance at North Dakota State this past weekend.
