Dorm contest helps save the Earth
In order to make Jackrabbits aware of how much energy they are using and what their impact is on both a local and global level, the Office of Facilities and Services, Residential Life, the Energy Analysis Lab and the Wind Application Center at SDSU have joined forces to implement Efficiency Week, a dorm-wide competition seeking to determine which students can save the most energy in one week.
Military students to honor veterans, ROTC’s proud past
While many people throughout Brookings sleep on Nov. 11, Cadet Major Sarah Smith will march in peaceful silence to honor the veterans’ sacrifices that have ensured freedom in the United States. “We really need to think about everything they have done so we can still have the United States ? and everything that we have,” she said.
CS majors program their way to success
A group of computer science majors at SDSU programmed their way into the second-place slot at the Association for Computer Machinery’s computer programming contest at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Seniors Scott Kool, Michael VanBemmel and Tigh Kistler are computer science majors at SDSU and participated in the annual computer programming event with their team, Never Gonna Let You Down.
UPC ‘flushes’ lawns, raises money for malaria nets
The University Program Council is out to raise funds to combat malaria by any means necessary, even if it means randomly placing toilets on university administrators’ lawns. “You Got Flushed” is a fundraiser featuring three pink toilets making the rounds around town.
Tigers look to knock off the Tide from list of unbeatens
Oregon handed the University of Southern California its worst loss since 2001. They ran through and around USC’s defense for 391 rushing yards and 613 total yards in a 47-20 victory. The following weeks will either weed out some of the remaining undefeated teams or create a huge mess for the BCS to sort out at the end of the season.
Krsnak paces men to Summit League crown
The SDSU men’s cross country team pulled off the upset of host team Southern Utah en route to a Summit League Title. Mike Krsnak, Greg Vollmer, Anthony Bongard and Greg Beesley all placed in the top 12 for the Jacks. “It is always exciting to win the conference,” SDSU head coach Rod DeHaven said.
Soccer earns top seed in Summit Tournament
The women’s soccer team is coming off a hard-fought 4-3 win over North Dakota State University that gave them the number one seed in the Summit League Tournament and a share of the regular season title. The Jacks built leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2, but NDSU answered back, each player with a goal of her own.

It’s not uncommon for college students to stay up past 2 a.m. studying or hanging out with friends. It’s also not uncommon for these students to have study buddies or friends that are of the opposite sex. That’s where 24-hour visitation comes in.
