Controversy remains over Presidential citizenship
Zeno Wicks III, SDSU professor
The following statement by Ian Odle is a lie. Read the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.
“But the most important issue is that of being a ‘natural-born citizen.’
Even if Obama was born in Hawaii with an American mother, his father was Kenyan. Being a natural-born citizen in common-law terms means that you and BOTH of your parents were born on U.S. soil. So even if Obama was born in Hawaii, he is still not a natural-born citizen and not eligible to be President.”
You should be ashamed at dragging the name of the Collegian through the mud with this trash.
Student researches topic of Presidential citizenship
Alec Vanhove, SDSU studentAccording to the Dred Scott v. Sandford case in 1857, a natural-born citizen of the United States is a person born on American soil regardless of where his or her parents were born.
Also, in 1898 with the United States vs. Wong Kim Ark case, the Supreme Court ruled that even if a child is born out of the United States but on a territory, such as a military base, they are a citizen of the United States. According to the LA Times, John McCain was born in Panama but on a U.S. military base. Why isn’t everyone up in arms that McCain was trying to become president even though he wasn’t a citizen!? Because McCain is an American citizen as well as Barack Obama. The paperwork has been released; some just choose to not look at it.
Ian Odle recently wrote to the Collegian calling for an investigation as to whether Obama’s citizenship of the United States is legitimate because a Russian came and spoke on campus about their conspiracy theory.
On the SDSUCollegian.com page concerning the article, username ‘JAI’ even claims Obama can’t produce documents to prove he was a state Senator! Are you serious!? Do you really believe that the United States government, the best and most successful government in the world based on our success in the amount of time we have been in existence would not research and run background check after background check on presidential candidates before they even begin their campaign for president!?
If you doubt me, check out these websites to see Obama’s birth certificate signed and notarized by American officials. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/w ashington/2008/06/obama- birth.html, http://fightthesmears.com/article s/5/birthcertificate and the absolutely most legitimate of the three: http://www.factcheck.org/election s-2008/born_in_the_usa.html.
In conclusion, Barack Obama is a natural-born citizen of the United States, is the legal President of the States, and is doing a way better job than Bush ever did. If you want a conspiracy to toil over, investigate why W. and Cheney refused to be interviewed separately about their knowledge of September 11, 2001.
