SDSU student dead in early morning shooting

Wire Reports

Bradley Odens, a 23-year-old SDSU student, was fatally shot this morning while entering the wrong house.

At 1:54 a.m., Brookings Police responded to a shooting at 129 Main Ave. S. after a resident reported that he had shot someone who was breaking into his home. Odens was fatally wounded and was later pronounced dead at the Brookings Hospital.

According to Brookings police reports, the initial investigation indicates that Odens may have been confused as to his whereabout and was warned by the resident that he was at the wrong address. Odens continued to make forcible entry and was shot by the resident.

Odens lived at 143 Main Avenue S., two houses away from where he was shot. Odens and the resident did not know each other.

No arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation.
