Perry to retire
At the end of the fiscal year, Robert T. Tad Perry, executive director for the Board of Regents, will retire after 15 years of service. “I leave a system that is doing record level service in teaching and research ? a system that has raised record levels of non-public dollars for the support of the work at each of our institutions,” Perry said in a letter sent to Regents employees after the announcement on March 18.
Rounds signs smoking ban
Gov. Mike Rounds signed a bill March 19 to make all bars and restaurants in South Dakota smoke-free, starting July 1. The new legislation is an addition to current law that prohibits smoking in other businesses and public buildings. Exceptions for the bill include motel rooms, tobacco shops and cigar bars.
