The Union was recently the target of three thefts in one week.
On Feb. 6 and 9, an SDSU graduate gained access to unauthorized areas and stole food from Aramark. On Feb. 13, a different person stole about $100 in food.
A staff member reported suspicious activity on Feb. 13, which led to the discovery of the second theft. Jennifer Novotny, director of The Union, said she appreciates that staff are watching for things and people that are out of place. She encourages students to do the same.
“I don’t want students to feel unsafe, but they should definitely report things,” she said.
In light of these incidents, the northwest door of The Union will be locked at 8 p.m. The Union will still be open until midnight, but people must enter through the Main Street entrances.
“It’s inconvenient for people,” said Novotny, “but we hope to not see incidents like these over and over again.”
Novotny stressed that though SDSU is not a dangerous campus, things like theft do happen here, too.
“A lot of people are complacent about security in general here,” she said. “This is a good reminder that it’s not always completely safe.”
