The University Program Council will hold a Locks of Love night on Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. The night is open to SDSU students, as well as people from the Brookings community.
“The goal of the event is to connect students to the community in an event that is for a good cause,” said Stephanie Cooper, UPC community service coordinator.
During the night, participants will get hair cuts for donating 10 or more inches of hair to Locks of Love. Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under the age of 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
Once all the participants have received their cuts, their hair will be styled during the showing of the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace. After the movie, their new short hairstyles will be revealed. There are five hairstylists who are donating their time to cut the participants’ hair.
The donated hair has to be relatively clean. It can be dyed or permed but cannot be bleached. The minimum length for donated hair is 10 inches. The donated hair gets sent to the National Headquarters of Locks of Love in Florida.
