The SDSU women’s track team tallied several first-place finishes to pace the Jackrabbits at the Bison Classic at the Bison Sports Arena in Fargo, N.D., on Jan. 17.
Heather Wollman, after placing ninth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.19 seconds, recorded a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.52. Her mark was almost three seconds faster than the second-place runner, University of Mary’s Nicketa Coombs, who had a time of 59.51.
The Jackrabbits were able to place four runners in the top five in the 1000-meter run with junior Nicole Davis leading the way with a time of 3 minutes and 9.46 seconds. Joni Strom finished second, Jessica Ludvick placed fourth and Hannah Stordahl came in fifth.
SDSU’s Brittany Garner, a junior from Rapid City, turned in the sixth best 200-meter time in school history with a time of 25.63 to earn first place. University of Mary’s Kristen Stewart placed second with a time of 26.06.
Sophomore Kelsey Aune recorded a first-place finish in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:00.02 for the Jacks. Aune beat North Dakota State’s Jordan Krahn by just over seven seconds as Krahn posted a time of 11:07.95 to earn second.
The Jackrabbits’ senior thrower Sara Ackman turned in the fifth best shot put all-time with a throw of 46 feet-10.25 inches. Ackman finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 55-11.00.”
In the one-mile run event, North Dakota’s Cody Halsen placed first with a time of 4:56.62. SDSU’s Ashley Storm placed fourth with a time of 5:13.58, Danielle Burke took fifth in 5:16.65 and Davis came in sixth with a time of 5:19.52.
In the 800-meter run, Minnesota State Moorhead’s Ashley Roemer placed first with a time of 2:15.21. SDSU’s Amanda Frohling took seventh with a time of 2:30.93.
The Jackrabbit team of Wollman, Stacy Huss, Jill Fritz and Megan Lauseng earned a fourth-place finish in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:01.86.
Jackrabbit junior Tamiko Kopfmann placed third in the long jump with a distance of 18-10.00.
Garner turned in a third-place finish for the Jacks in the pole vault with a vault of 11-11.75.
In the high jump, SDSU’s Rachael Hakk tied for fifth with a jump of 5-02.00.
SDSU placed two in the top five in the triple jump competition, with Ashley Lange taking third with a distance of 38-7.75 and Lora Shearer placing fourth with a jump of 36-11/00.
Up next for the Jackrabbit women is the Iowa State Open in Ames, Iowa, on Jan. 23 and 24.
