Regents defer laptop program
The plan to require all students at South Dakota’s public universities to rent or buy a mobile computer has been deferred. Robert T. Tad Perry, executive director of the South Dakota Board of Regents, announced via e-mail on Dec. 15 that he would recommend that the BOR defer action on the Mobile Computing Initiative.
New dining and housing expansions approved
SDSU can continue to plan its new residence hall and the dining services expansion after receiving approval from the Board of Regents on Dec. 18. During the Committee on Budget and Finance meeting, the Board said SDSU could move forward with their residence hall and dining services plans, but funding for both projects will have to be approved at the April meeting.
Oien announces retirement
Fred Oien, athletic director and head of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, is retiring. Oien has held his current positions for 18 years and has served SDSU athletics since 1979. Oien plans to retire April 8, 2009. In a press release, SDSU President David Chicoine said the university’s transition to NCAA Division I athletics will be Oien’s legacy at SDSU.
