Second to last column tells of editor’s experience at paper

A few weeks back, someone asked what my last column would be. I had no answer. I guess I didn’t want to face the reality of a life without The Collegian. But kind of like facing a life with a realization that girls are attractive and not full of cooties, life must go on.

Letter to the Editor

I was saddened and outraged by the hateful behavior of SDSU students that Amy Poppinga described in her article “Students take aim at others on the Internet” (Nov. 19). In my three semesters teaching at SDSU I have taught several books by gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans authors, some of whom speak frankly about their sexual identities and experiences.

Wait to marry for the ‘right woman’

Lately, there is only one word my Filipino friends never spare me of whenever we have a little chit-chat. Regardless of where we are or what we are into, the word always comes into the picture: marriage. Since I have reached the age Filipino culture thinks is the right time to marry and have a family of my own, I have never stopped thinking what basis most of those people have each time they would ask me why I still do not have a wife.

I think there are some serious misconceptions out there about the Republican Party and conservatism. One of the worst misinterpretations of conservative tenants is the perception that we could care less about the poor. Conventional wisdom out there in liberal land tells you that Republicans love stomping on the poor with the proverbial boot of big businesses.

Beginner’s guide to internships

Ahoy, thar matey! Keep a weather eye out for an internship, will ya? I’d be much obliged. I be wanting to land that big one for awhile now for I missed me big catch last time ‘cuz danged it all if I didn’t wait ’til the last minute to cast me bait. For the uninitiated, many students will face that point in their academic career where they must complete an internship to finish their major and eventually graduate.

Today’s children not taught manners

Little unplanned moments in life are truly the biggest and most real experiences that we can collect in our quest towards true humanity. My older sister, Jayme, is pregnant with her and her husband’s first child. She let me touch her stomach, and I felt her baby, my niece or nephew, hiccup.

Proposal unnecessary for SDSU

issue: The Board of Regents are pushing for the mandatory laptop program to start by 2010. In order to accomplish this, their proposal would add $7 per credit hour to student fees. The Board of Regents has come up with a new proposal for mandating laptops for every student on campus.

Announcers should stop using age-old phrases

Sports phrases that are too often used and should be no longer announced by sports reporters/announcers include: Phrase: “Hot stove” What it means: Major League Baseball trading dealings in the off-season Rant: Baseball and kitchen appliances should never mix.

Q & A with the Sports Editor Ariy-El Boynton

Q: Now that we are a couple weeks out from the fifth match-up for the “rock,” did any one team, either the Bison or the Jacks, hold an upper hand in the last five years? A: The “rock” that you speak of is the Dakota Marker, which was showed off by Jacks’ players at Fargo on Nov.
