Jacks soccer at top of Summit, will run with Buffaloes next

In its first year of eligibility, the SDSU socccer team won the Summit League Tournament championship over the weekend. The Jacks got revenge on the only team that beat the Jacks in the Summit League regular season by defeating top-seeded Oakland University 1-0 at John MacKenzie Alumni Field on Nov.

Jacks win final tune up game

The women’s Jackrabbit basketball team won its final preseason game 91-49 against Southwest Minnesota State at Frost Arena. “It’s good to come out and win our second exhibition game,” said senior Ashlea Muckenhirn. One of the reasons SDSU got the 42-point win was the difference in the rebound margin.

QB has made large footprint

Jackrabbit starting quarterback Ryan Berry is no ordinary student athlete. He has won a conference championship, earned nearly a 3.9 G.P.A. and is a senior leader. Former teammate Reed Burckhardt has said that Berry was a great teammate and everybody on the team would back him on that.

Berry, seven TD’s force ‘Birds to fly back south to Illinois

Conventional football wisdom says when the temperatures are frigid, teams should run the ball. Illinois State’s defense was guarding against the run. The Jacks just passed over the defense. Ryan Berry threw for seven touchdowns, and the Jacks beat the Redbirds 52-21 on Nov.

Jacks trampled by Mastodons

The nearly 500 people in attendance at SDSU’s last volleyball match were given their money’s worth in a classic five-set thriller. IPFW made the kills when it counted, erased a two-set deficit and took the match 3-2 at Frost Arena on Nov. 8. The experience of the older Mastodons had an impact on the game.

Senior star led team through highs and lows

Jacks’ senior volleyball player Mackenzie Angner has had an emotional career in her time at SDSU. “It has been a little up and down,” said Angner. “There have been great times and those were better due to some bad times. There’s no way I would change anything.

Jacks plan to feast on Spartans

In a rematch from last season, the SDSU Jackrabbit men’s basketball team will open the regular season Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. against the San Jose State Spartans of the Western Athletic Conference in Frost Arena. The two teams played last year in San Jose. The Spartans defeated the Jackrabbits 77-71 in overtime.

Jacks harriers compete against Midwest best

The men and women’s cross country teams will be competing in the Midwest Regional Meet at Stillwater, Okla., on Nov. 15. Both teams are coming off strong performances in the Summit League Meet. The women, led by Ashley Storm’s seventh-place finish, placed four runners in the top 15 and edged IPFW by three points for the Summit League title in Tulsa, Okla.

Johnston, crew have many tasks

The coaches of SDSU women’s basketball team work hard, and that leads to all the team’s on-the-court success. Head coach Aaron Johnston, associate head coach Laurie Melum, assistant coach Katie Falco and graduate assistants Ben DeWaard and Melissa Miller play a huge role in the Jackrabbit women’s success.

Jacks hope to avoid being Tiger’s prey

The Jackrabbit women’s basketball team will take to the road to open the season against the Missouri Tigers on Nov. 14 in Columbia, Mo. The game will be the first of seven non-conference games for the Jacks to open the 2008-09 season. It will also be a rematch of last year’s contest between the two teams, which ended in a 78-63 Jackrabbit victory in Frost Arena.
