FACEOFF: Should the Bowl Championship Series be kept in place? NO!
Whenever the participants of a championship game are NOT decided on the field, there is a problem. College football at the FBS level is the only sport that doesn’t have a playoff system after the regular season is over. If your team has more than one loss or is not from a BCS conference, there is no chance of you winning the National Championship or even getting a chance to prove yourself on the field in order to earn a spot in the BCS title game.
Mustangs stampede past Jackrabbits
Mid-way through the fourth quarter, the Jackrabbits caught a much-needed break. After forcing talented Mustangs’ Jonathan Dally to his first interception of the season, the Jacks had momentum on their side. SDSU was down by 14 points and driving. Cal Poly, however, squashed any comeback attempt and beat the Jacks 42-28 at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium on Oct.
Jacks’ men’s swim and dive team to take on Summit
The SDSU men’s swimming and diving team is young but versatile enough to improve on last season’s sixth-place finish in the Summit League. Head coach Brad Erickson is looking toward three upperclassmen to lead the Jacks during the 2008-09 season. Senior Cade Roberts has shown great improvements in practice over last season’s performance in the breaststroke when he won the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke in the season-opening meet against the University of South Dakota (USD).
Student athletes put on children’s Halloween event
The SDSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host its annual youth Halloween Penny Carnival on Oct. 26 at Frost Arena. Children through sixth grade are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to the event, which will run from 2 to 4 p.m. on the Frost Arena track.
FACEOFF: Should the Bowl Championship Series be kept in place? YES!
The BCS is good because it emphasizes importance on every game, and if a team wants to win the national championship, they have to be ranked number one or number two in the BCS standings at the end of the regular season. The BCS accounts for a higher level of competition because sometimes losing just one game can take a team out of the national championship picture.
Jacks have the advantage over winless Indiana St.
After losing to two top-five teams two games in a row, SDSU looks to get on the winning side against Indiana State. On the year, Indiana State has been outscored 335-40 and is currently 0-7 on the year. SDSU is 2-1 in Missouri Valley Football. Let’s look at the two teams in more detail: Quarterback Indiana State has three quarterbacks who have lined under center.
Jacks embrace former coach, avoid Bulldogs’ bite in five
Much emotion filled Frost Arena on Oct. 20 as the Drake Bulldogs and the SDSU Jacks squared off in a non-league volleyball match. In the end, one team had Mackenzie Angner, the other did not. Angner and the Jackrabbits won the match, 3-2 (25-19, 16-25, 20-25, 25-22, 16-14) in front of 492 fans.
Q and A with Ariy-El
Q: The game at Indiana State is already a win for the SDSU football team, right? Those Sycamores are awful! – Robert, Volga A: In the words of ESPN’s Game Day analyst Lee Corso, “Not so fast, my friend!” I am sure head coach John Stiegelmeier and staff will be sure to remind the Jacks that every team is dangerous, especially in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
