Tennis struggles in Summit

The SDSU men’s tennis team opened its second Summit League cluster tournament of the season, getting swept by Oral Roberts (Okla.) 4-0 on April 11.

The Jackrabbits fell 5-12 in duals this season and 1-3 versus Summit League opponents. ORU won the four singles matches in straight sets to earn the victory.

In the first match, ORU’s Oleksandr Kotsuik defeated SDSU’s Michael Engdahl, 6-2, 6-1. In the second match, SDSU’s Corey Paluch fell 7-5, 6-4 to ORU’s Alexander Dargel.

Match three saw similar results as ORU’s Cuan Farquharson defeated Jackrabbit Brian Hylle. SDSU’s Steve Grantz took ORU’s Dennis Troyke to a third-set tiebreaker, where Troyke prevailed 7-2.

Western Illinois defeated the SDSU men’s tennis team 7-0 on April 12. The Jacks fell 5-13, 1-4 against Summit League opponents. Two singles matches went to third-set tiebreakers as well as the first doubles match.

WIU’s Zach Frisch defeated SDSU’s Engdahl 6-1, 6-0 in the opening singles match. SDSU’s Paluch fell to WIU’s Martin Bostr
