Sports writer is up for new air and spring

The mixture of snowy weather combined with nice weather has given me hope. Even though two days out of every week during the last four weeks has been coated with snow, I am hopeful that spring is here. Visions of outdoor activities have danced in my dreams.

More sports staff gives Jackrabbits extra help

With the additional duties pressed on the SDSU athletic departments, the athletic administration hired additional help to make the coming years easier on everybody on the athletic staff. “Adding additions to staff are necessary, especially as you continue to grow, because there are more things that people are doing, and we need to continue to grow our department,” SDSU associate athletic director Rob Peterson said.

SDSU track and field opens season with harsh conditions

The SDSU track and field kicked off the 2008 outdoor season with a cold and windy weekend at the Missouri Relays on March 28-29 in Columbia, Mo. SDSU went against schools such as Drake, Marquette and UMKC at the Audrey J. Walton Stadium on the campus of the University of Missouri; team scores were not recorded.

“Bradley Hathaway is gnarly. His show is super awesome,” said Alex Gutzmer of Lake Preston. Part way into The Dang Dang Tour, Bradley Hathaway stopped in Brookings on March 23. Hathaway played at the Days Inn and was preceded by two local bands. The first to play was The Leeway.

Jacks softball swept the Jags in a home away from home

Recent snowstorms have wreaked havoc with the Jackrabbit softball team’s schedule. Instead of canceling games, however, the Jacks chose to travel to Ralston, Neb., as the IUPUI Jaguars faced them this past weekend. The Jacks swept the weekend series, winning 3-1, 7-0 and 12-3.

40. Gale Sayers He was nicknamed the Kansas Comet, which seems like a fitting nickname considering his brief but definitely bright career. Sayers was the youngest NFL player ever inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977 at the age of 34. Sayers played in the NFL from 1965-1971, gaining 9,435 net career yards.
