Newbie looks forward to his first Pub Crawl

The illusive Pub Crawl: minors dream about it, those of age brag about it and everyone has heard stories about it. Officially, it is known as St. Patrick’s Day Pub Parade. As an “of-age” newbie, I have not personally experienced Pub Crawl for myself, but I have experienced the aftermath, and boy have I heard some stories.

2008 Pub Crawl

With spring comes St. Patrick’s Day, and the St. Patty’s Day Pub Parade, more commonly known as Pub Crawl. This year, the parade kicks off at noon on March 29. Participants can sign up to make the trek in teams and move bar to bar along the Main Avenue stretch.

Easter holiday moves St. Patty’s Day parties

Usually the infamous Pub Crawl is celebrated the weekend immediately following St. Patrick’s Day, hence the green drinks, the usually green-costumed people and its true name: the St. Patrick’s Day Pub Parade. This year, however-in a fluke that has not happened since 1940 and is not expected again until the year 2160-St.

College Connoisseur talks about Pub Crawl

Pub Crawl is serious business. I am looking forward to drinking too much and yelling really loudly – all before going home for dinner. It’s great to have thousands of others with you while you have the 12th round by 2 p.m. It helps mask the constant fear of being an alcoholic.

Bars and others profit from ‘spring Hobo Day’

The “spring Hobo Day,” as Karl Steege, manager of Skinner’s Pub, would call it – otherwise known as the St. Patty’s Day Pub Parade – means big business for downtown bars. Steege said he figures that all together, the bars downtown make $100,000 in sales and draw 3,000 people during the parade, more affectionately known as Pub Crawl.

For the second year in a row the Jackrabbit women’s basketball team has been selected for the Women’s National Invitation Tournament and will open at home. But unlike last year, the Jacks will play in the first round. “When it was announced that we are playing in the first round and hosting I think that was good relief for the players, a little less stress and a little less worry,” head coach Aaron Johnston said.

WNIT Game Factors

In a game of runs, the Creighton Bluejays used a run that lasted the whole second half in a 76-69 victory over the Jackrabbit women’s basketball team in the first round of the WNIT. Creighton shot close to 71 percent in the second half, including scores on their first five possessions, and just under 56.

Pub Crawl not an excuse to over-consume

The tradition of Brookings’ St. Patricks Day Pub Parade, or Pub Crawl, is a popular event among SDSU students. There are a few tips that should be taken into consideration to help keep everyone safe throughout the day. “People need to realize that Pub Crawl is a really fun event for everyone, but it’s not an excuse to over-consume,” said Karl Steege, the manager of Skinner’s Pub.

Jacks fall to Bluejays in WNIT

At halftime of the first round Women’s National Invitational Tournament, the Creighton/SDSU game seemed to be a foregone conclusion in SDSU’s favor. The Jacks were riding a 12 game winning streak and it had been over 430 days(22 games over all) since the Jacks last fell at home.

SDSU falls in first game

With a 76-69 loss to the Creighton Bluejays the Jackrabbits will settle for Summit League champs and WNIT invite as their 22 home game winning streak and 12 game home streak ended in the disappointing loss.
