Tracksters break school record in the 4×400 relay

The SDSU track and field team competed in the Adidas Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Feb. 9. The SDSU women’s 4×400-meter relay team broke the school record on their way to a second place finish.

Brittany Garner, Cameryn Christion, Megan Lauseng and Heather Wollman were able to achieve a time of 3:47.21 breaking the previous record of 3:53.34 set in 2002. Alabama’s team of Trish Bartholomew, Talaya Owens, Kimberley Laing and Chealsea Taylor was able to win the race with a time of 3:45.38.

In the women’s 60-meter dash, Christion placed fifth with a time of 7.73 seconds. Teammate Garner placed seventh with a time of 7.77 seconds. Deiddra Rogers placed first competing unattached with a time of 7.63 seconds.

SDSU’s Stacy Huss placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.98. Her teammate Ashley Storm placed 11th with a time of 2:20.43. North Dakota State University’s Laura Hermanson placed first with a time of 2:10.25.

SDSU’s Rachael Hakk tied for fourth in the women’s high jump with a distance of 1.65m. Hakk tied with Oklahoma’s Katherine Johnson.

Joni Strom placed ninth for the SDSU women in the 1000-meter run coming in at 3:05.86.

In the 3000-meter run, SDSU’s Nicole Davis and Claire Steinke placed 17th and 18th. Davis’s time was 10:28.09 followed by Steinke’s time of 10:28.74.

In the women’s 400-meter dash, Alabama’s Bartholomew placed first with a time of 53.87 seconds. Lauseng placed 23rd with a time of 1:00.23 for the Jackrabbits.

For the women’s one-mile run SDSU’s Caitlin Berry placed ninth with a time of 4:59.31. Wichita State’s Kellyn Johnson placed first coming in at 4:55.33.

SDSU’s Sara Ackman placed eighth with a distance of 13.82m in the shot put.

In the men’s 400-meter dash, SDSU’s Dan Winders placed 24th with a time of 50.84 seconds.

SDSU freshman Marshall Kambestad placed ninth in the one mile run with a time of 4:14.20. Pete van der Westhuizen of Nebraska placed first with a time of 4:02.19. Kambestad also recorded a seventh place finish in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:33.90.
