Disasters happen: LOVE

Kristin Dalton and Tucker Rzepecki are senior fine arts majors with an art exhibition in the Ritz Gallery of Grove Hall. Their exhibition is titled LOVE and Other Disasters. “So much of our work deals with relationships and the name covers all our work,” said Rzepecki.

Student athletes give up morning to serve youth

Normally the sight of 300 plus kids at Frost Arena and the Intramural Building on a lazy weekend would be an odd sight for parents, kids, student athletes and coaches. This was no ordinary day. The SDSU Athletic Department along with a host of SDSU athletes from the track, soccer, basketball, football and volleyball teams took their morning off and helped the area youth with basketball skills to set up the Fast Break Camp.

SDSU blows past Westerwinds

The game that pitted co-leaders in the Summit League against each other was supposed to be a heavy-weight bout, with two teams going at it for 40 minutes. The SDSU women ignored the hype and out-shot, out-rebounded and out-played Western Illinois 85-60 at the 36th Annual Pork Classic.

Second half Kai Williams’ dunk sparks SDSU Summit League win

A season-high points effort propelled the Jackrabbits to an 81-75 win over conference opponent Western Illinois on Feb. 9 in front of a season-high 3,980 fans at Frost Arena. The 36th Annual Pork Classic got off to a fast start as the Jacks held an early 7-2 lead.

SDSU ends the season with a win over Minot State University

The SDSU women’s hockey team defeated Minot State University 12-3 on Feb. 10, Natalie Domagala scored four goals to lead the Jackrabbits in their final game of the season. The Jacks grabbed a 5-3 lead at the end of the first period thanks to Domagala’s four goals and another goal by Andi Ribstein.

Tracksters break school record in the 4×400 relay

The SDSU track and field team competed in the Adidas Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Feb. 9. The SDSU women’s 4×400-meter relay team broke the school record on their way to a second place finish. Brittany Garner, Cameryn Christion, Megan Lauseng and Heather Wollman were able to achieve a time of 3:47.

The Huskies take a bite out of the Jacks on the ice

It only took about 10 minutes for St. Cloud State to get on the scoreboard against the SDSU men’s hockey team on Feb. 9th. Unfortunately for the Jacks, SCSU scored six more goals over the next 50 minutes in a 7-0 rout. Following a 5-2 setback the previous night, the Jacks hoped to get off to a fast start, but it was SCSU that started fast.

Jacks fail to jump over Hill

After holding Summit League Preseason Player of the Year George Hill in check for the first 30 minutes, SDSU lost him. Hill went on a one-man run to lead the Jaguars over SDSU 70-56 on Feb. 7 in front of 1,491 fans at Frost Arena. The loss was the seventh in the last eight games for the Jacks.

Newer local band contains people from other projects

Most people that know local music don’t even blink when the word ‘evolve’ is mentioned. Neither do the guys of Foley. These guys formed one of the most promising local bands of 2008, possibly due to the fact that they’re all veterans in the local scene (even at their young ages).
