The SDSU men’s basketball team was looking to win back-to-back conference home games on Jan. 17 against the University of Missouri-Kansas City, but the Jacks let another halftime lead slip away in the second half, losing 64-58 to the Kangaroos.
SDSU got off to a good start early, leading 13-5 when sophomore Garrett Callahan drained a three-pointer five minutes into the game. The Jacks would not surrender the lead until a Kenny Sims layup midway through the second half gave UMKC their first lead since the opening seconds.
Despite shooting only 29 percent from the field in the second half, the Kangaroos clung to a single position lead until foul shots late in the game gave UMKC their final margin of victory.
Callahan led the Jacks in scoring for the third time in the last four games with 16 points, including shooting three of five from beyond the three point stripe. The two other starters in double figures were redshirt freshman forward Anthony Cordova and senior Ben Beren, who each had 10 points and five rebounds.
The all-time series between the two teams is now tied at two. The teams split the two meetings during the 2004-05 season, with each team winning on its home floor.
