Waiting tables is a common college student’s job and, at times, it is not all that fun. However, it is a job all people should experience once in their life. It teaches patience, composure, respect and understanding for all those people providing a service on your behalf and for those earning a living off of tips.
Wal-Mart venture disappointing in Korea, fails to adapt to Asian market
SDSU professors, students and Brookings community members gathered on Dec. 3 to hear Korean exchange professor Dr. Kye-Chung Song speak on the Asian perspective of the globalization of American firms. Song specifically discussed the failure of Wal-Mart in Korea and contrasted it to the success and economic growth experienced by the Korean division of GM.

Home shopping parties are a local shopping alternative
The holiday season is just around the corner, and some people might consider Brookings to have a rather small selection of stores for Christmas shopping. Instead people can jump in their cars and travel about an hour to Sioux Falls, order things online, paying shipping and handling fees, or try something a little bit different like home shopping parties.
Larson Free Skate draws students for evening of fun
On Nov. 30, approximately 300 SDSU students-ranging in age from freshman to senior-crowded the Larson Ice Center for the opportunity to ice skate for free. The event, which was sponsored by Weekend Stuff!, only required an SDSU ID to enter. This helped to draw the 300 students and another 50 who left after discovering all the skates were gone.
BSA ‘steps’ up to challenges facing african americans
Does the art of “Step” sound appealing to you? Step is a combination of military drills, contemporary jazz and hip-hop moves. The body takes the place of the drums as they slap various parts of their bodies and feet giving a complex rhythmic foundation. The show is free and everyone is encouraged to attend this cultural event.
Survey says South Dakotans are happy
South Dakota is number one, at least when it comes to mental health. According to a report by Mental Health America, South Dakota is ranked the healthiest when depression and suicide levels were measured. The report, which was based on two federal surveys, judged states in four areas: the percentage of adults reporting a major depressive episode in the past year, the percentage of adolescents reporting a major depressive episode in the past year, the percentage of adults who said they experienced serious psychological distress in the past year and the average of poor mental health days people reported during the past 30 days.
Men’s basketball falls to Wisconsin-Green Bay 88-81
Despite senior forward Ben Beran and two other Jackrabbits scoring in double-figures, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay beat SDSU Dec. 1 in Frost Arena 88-81. Beran scored 20 points during the game, sophomore forward Kai Williams contributed 17 points and sophomore guard Garret Callahan pitched in 13 points.
2007-08 seniors have shown leadership
There is a special group of athletes on the South Dakota State University campus. They number about 70 students. Their teammates look up to them as leaders, and they have rightfully earned that honor. Just who exactly are these athletes? They are this year’s senior class of athletes.
