The Lady Jacks took on Bemidji State Oct. 31, winning 91-72 in the opening exhibition game of the 2007-08 season.
The first half was tightly contested as the Jacks held only a two point lead, 39-37.
Head Coach Aaron Johnston said the Jacks need to work on slowing down penetration as well as the transition defense. “We left too many shooters open at the three point line,” he said.
Jennifer Warkenthien scored a team-high 21 points along with 10 rebounds. Ketty Cornemann and Maria Boever were close behind scoring 20 and 19 points respectively.
Point guard Alison Anderson came off the bench to dish out a game-high seven assists with only one turnover.
Senior center Courtney Grimsrud, who had seven points and nine rebounds, said that the team started a little slow in the first half, but picked it up in the second, playing better together on both sides of the ball. Grimsrud and guard Andrea Verdegan are the only seniors on this year’s team.
Bemidji State point guard Amy Larson set the pace for the Beavers, scoring a team-high 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
