Veterans’ Day to be celebrated, not slept through
The Issue: Students tend to use Veterans’ Day as a day off rather than a day to remember the people who fought to protect their freedom. The Stance: Students should take the time to participate in activities whenever they spend the long weekend. Many students plan to get out of town this weekend, whether traveling home to rest and actually finish homework or to the big city for some relaxation and shopping.
T-birds pay visit to SDSU, look for first win
The gridiron Jacks will need to come down from the high of “whipping” the University of Central Arkansas Bears 38-10. Waiting next for the Jacks is Great West Football conference rival Southern Utah The Thunderbirds come to Brookings to take on the Jackrabbits Nov.
Jacks force the Bear offense to hibernate
For the second week in a row, the SDSU football team held the lead as they went into their away locker room. Unlike last week at UC Davis, the visiting team did not let up in the second half and beat the University of Central Arkansas 38-10 at Estas Stadium in Conway, Ark.
Faith without good deeds: is it enough to get into heaven?
November formally lands, boiling over with questions about faith in God. Since I had written a couple of religious stuff in the previous issues of this paper, I rummaged through one of the products of my early glorious moments at writing and thought of publishing a non-sequitur-like entry such as this.
Letter to the Editor: Spreading the good news is not judgmental, it is a Christians’ duty
Roxy Hammond’s column about religious intolerance a few weeks ago made me think. It made me think about how often we as Christ followers fail to live out the faith we profess and how often we fail to love like He teaches us. I agree with you, Roxy, religion does not give us the right to pass judgment.
Letter to the Editor: Mandatory laptop computers may not be in the best interest of SDSU students
I was relieved to read the reaction to the Regents planned “Mobile Computing Environment” the Collegian printed. As a Computer Science major, I would say having a computer is important to me. However, I don’t feel that having a laptop is a requirement in the least.
Aging not for the faint of heart
I turned 41 last week. Several of my co-workers on The Collegian staff half-heartedly wished me a happy birthday. I say half-heartedly because I think some people were afraid to say happy birthday to me because they were not sure how I felt about turning another year older.
Great Jackrabbits that Nick saw in the front row
Many of the coaches at SDSU talk about family and being a strong family unit. After being around SDSU athletics for almost 17 years, I have seen many great family members wear the yellow and the blue. Family members have an impact on other members as well as the community around them.
Center scores 16 in 79-44 win
The SDSU women’s basketball team had their final exhibition game Nov. 3 beating Southwest Minnesota State 79-44 at Frost Arena. The Jacks dominated throughout the game, never trailing and holding a 47-16 lead at halftime. SDSU shot seven of 14 from the three-point line while holding the Mustangs to only seven field goals in the first half.
Jacks beat Beavers, bench comes up big
The Lady Jacks took on Bemidji State Oct. 31, winning 91-72 in the opening exhibition game of the 2007-08 season. The first half was tightly contested as the Jacks held only a two point lead, 39-37. Head Coach Aaron Johnston said the Jacks need to work on slowing down penetration as well as the transition defense.
