Iowa Board of Regents decide campus police can now carry guns

The shootings at Virginia Tech last spring have inspired many universities to begin changing their policies and finding new ways to keep students safe while at college. On Oct. 31, the Iowa Board of Regents voted 6-2 to require campus police to carry firearms, after they meet rigorous firearms training standards.

Update for academic integrity policy

On Dec. 11, the Academic Senate and the Students’ Association will be co-hosting an Academic Integrity Forum in room 169 in The Union from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The forum will discuss definitions of plagiarism and cheating as well as ideas for updating the current policy.

Donate money to CMN by downing caffeine

Every Monday, all three Java City locations on campus will donate five cents of every beverage sold to the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN). “Miracle Mondays” began on Sept. 24 and will continue until the day of the CMN State-A-Thon on March 1, 2008. “We are very fortunate to be able to use Java City as a fundraiser,” said Kristen Blasius, CMN State-A-Thon coordinator and senior psychology major.

Innovation Campus begins

On Nov. 15, local dignitaries and university officials broke ground on the Innovation Center, the first building to be constructed on Innovation Campus. “The people will move; population centers will be where research is,” said State Representative Larry Tidemann.

Wager leaves NDSU student body president with pie on face

Pies flew at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium on Nov. 17 after SDSU won the Dakota Marker game. The stadium was packed with a record crowd of 16,345 people who came to watch the rival teams play for the marker and the conference title. SDSU Students’ Association President Alex Brown and Vice President Chris Schaefer had a bet with North Dakota State University’s Student Body President Josh Reimnitz and Vice President Clara Presser.
