The SDSU Dairy Products Judging Team placed third at the 86th Collegiate Dairy Products Evaluation Contest on Oct. 16 in Las Vegas, Nev. “We prepare for two years to go to this contest,” Tori Boomgaarden, a senior dairy production major and member of the team, said.
Contest offers scholarships, informs on global warming
Miles Automotive Group is offering creative college students a chance to win scholarships and improve the environment. The California-based electric car company sponsors a Web-based program, MILES Revolution on their No Gas Required Web site, which aims to raise awareness about global warming and sustainability on university campuses.
Sudanese ambassador hopes for future peace
Walking to class in the rain was the biggest hardship facing most SDSU students on Oct. 15, a far stretch from the adversity plaguing the citizens of Sudan as described by its General Ambassador to the United States, John Ukec, in his presentation at the Performing Arts Center.
Campus groups work on winter warm-up
From Oct. 22 through Oct. 26, the University Program Council and Student Leaders in Service are co-sponsoring the “Share the Warmth Clothing Drive” to help families from Brookings that are in need of winter clothing. The clothing drive is a collaborative effort between the university and the Brookings community.
Several parking lots to close for sake of progress
SDSU may see some parking changes during the next few months. Most of these changes will be caused by construction. “Every time we build a new building, we have to close part of a parking lot for construction,” Elizabeth Fox, chair of the Parking and Traffic Committee, said.
Fresh talent, different styles, five local bands: one ultimate battle
The Volstorff Ballroom will soon be filled with the musical sounds of five local bands. On Oct. 30 at 7:00 p.m., the University Program Council is hosting a Battle of the Bands. Five local bands will come together to entertain the ears of SDSU’s students. The bands entered in the competition include Avery, Welcome to the Cinema, Dawning by Day, Fox and Electric Nectar.
YouTube star coming to SDSU
Judson Laipply is coming to the PAC Nov. 5 at 7p.m. Laipply is the man behind “The Evolution of Dance” video. It is the number one most viewed all time video, number one top rated video and number three most discussed video on YouTube.com. Laipply wanted something that made the audiences remember his message.
Alum stars in Cosmo contest
One of South Dakota’s most eligible bachelors has been nominated for “Cosmo’s Bachelor of 2007.” Ryan Beyer, a former SDSU student, proudly represented South Dakota as one of the candidates in the competition. The representatives at Cosmopolitan magazine were charmed by his sexy grin and the description of him that was sent in with his nomination.
Jackrabbit harriers look to battle Summit League foes
The SDSU cross country teams will finish their season this Saturday at the Summit League Championships in Macomb, Ill., with Western Illinois University serving as host. On the men’s side, senior Andrew Van Nurden has the best chance to finish near the top of standings, while red shirt freshman Marshall Kambestad should end up battling for a top 10 spot.
