The competition was held at the Brookings skate park and all proceeds went to the skate park fund. The Sounds of South Dakota Vocal Showcase presented an adapted version of Mozart’s “The Impresario” to a moderately full audience, on Saturday at the University of Sioux Falls. Notes By Lucinda

Most local bands have a shelf life shorter than a loaf of bread. Those that actually do survive usually take years to establish a steady line-up and local exposure. Avery, a pop-punk band that hails from the Sioux Falls/Brookings area, has taken that stereotype and smashed it.

Movie twists keeps viewers guessing

A human shooting star, a gay pirate and a youth-obsessed witch all add to the silliness that is the adventure fantasy movie entitled Stardust. The Jackrabbit football team hosted their home opener against the Northern Iowa Panthers in front of 10,844 fans on a chilly Saturday night in Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. For the second year in a row the Jacks (0-3 0-0 GWFC) team had UNI (3-0) on the ropes after the first half, only to let the lead slip through their fingers in the second.

Welcome Back’

In a formal ceremony sprinkled with humor, SDSU students, faculty and alumni were able to get a better insight into who their new president is and what he has planned for a place so special to his audience. Blue and gold dragonflies fluttered about as David L.

Protestors gather to oppose war in Iraq

SDSU students, faculty and Brookings residents held a peace rally outside the post office at noon on Sept. 14. The group of anti-war protesters gathered at 11:45 a.m. in the grass just southwest of The Union and then marched to the post office on Main Street for a silent vigil.

Week 3 NFL Preview

I know this upset special may be a bigger shocker than Houston not picking Reggie Bush in the 2006 NFL Draft, but I have a gut feeling about this game. The Houston Texans actually have a real quarterback in Matt Schaub. Schaub has been effective for the second straight week, while passing for 227 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

Chicoine’s five-year plan brightens SDSU’s future

The Issue: 19th President has big plans for SDSU. The Stance: It could lead to big changes, and the future looks bright. There’s no question that David Chicoine is not Peggy Miller. No one expects him to be. He has his own ideas for SDSU, and right now he is deciding what could be best for the university.
