Corruption clouds sports

It seems that sports always have some sort of controversy surrounding them at all times, no matter how large or small the problem is. This summer has seen three of the biggest scandals to ever rock the world of sports. With allegations of steroid use following Barry Bonds, the illegal gambling former NBA referee Tim Donaghy was involved in and Michael Vick being charged with running an illegal dog fighting business, the world of sports has never received so much unwanted attention.

Freshmen not prepared for college find life on campus overwhelming

Every year, freshmen students flood SDSU. Many think they are prepared for anything that is thrown at them. Others cry and call home at least every other day because of how homesick they feel. Some go home at least every other weekend to see their families and either get more stuff from home or simply to eat good home cooking.

Triple major taxes enthusiasm to reach student’s educational goals

I’m old. Yes, that’s right, at the ripe age of 22 I am classifying myself as elderly. At least that’s what I feel like at the beginning of the semester. For those of you few unfortunate souls keeping track, I’ve been here for longer than that normal four-year mark.

Tailgate policy changes pre-game fun for fans

The Issue: The tailgating policy change went into effect with very little student feedback and with very little time for Jacks fans to adjust. The Solution: With decisions that affect thousands of students and hundreds of alumni, university administration should work thoroughly to seek out student input and find a solution most can be happy with.

Timing, forethought and an issue are required for effective protesting

Last Wednesday marked the start of what may very well be my last year at SDSU. With this knowledge in mind, I have been steadily compiling memories, reveling in what it means to be a Jackrabbit. I found it oddly fitting that the most vivid memory I have of my fourth first day of school involves being told I will be sentenced to eternal damnation unless I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

Chicoine’s Inauguration Sept. 15

At least 1,800 people are expected to attend President David L. Chicoine’s inaugural events on Sept. 15. Chicoine is the 19th president of SDSU. He took office on Jan. 1, 2007, and is the third alumnus to be president, according to the SDSU website. The inauguration is important because it is a formal welcoming to SDSU, and it gives the city and campus a chance to fully recognize Chicoine as the president of the university, said the Students’ Association President Alex Brown.
