Summer is a great opportunity to finally travel to those big-name shows that you never could during the busy school year. Here are a few that I think will be especially good and are within a reasonable distance.

The Honda Civic Tour will be hitting the area soon with Fall Out Boy, +44, The Academy Is … , Cobra Starship and Paul Wall. The tour will be in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the Mid America Recreation Center on May 13 with tickets running around $33. It will then travel to Minneapolis for a May 16 show at the Target Center, with tickets running from $23 – $33 depending on your seating preference.

The Killers will be touring this summer, hitting both Des Moines, IA and St. Paul, MN. The first will be on May 14 at the Val Air Ball Room and the later on May 15 at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium. Both dates are with Envy Corps with tickets running around $33.

For those female musician junkies, Gwen Stefani will be in Minneapolis at the Xcel Energy Center on June 5. Guests include Akon and Lady Sovereign. About a week and a half later, on June 13, Nelly Furtado will take stage, with openers yet to be announced. Ticket prices run from $40 – $70 for both shows.

For the more laid-back music types, John Mayer will be in Des Moines with Ben Folds. The show will be on June 18 at the Well Fargo Arena. Tickets for this show run from $40 – $50.

The ever-popular (and one of my favorite choices) Vans Warped Tour will be in Minneapolis on July 29 at the HHH Metrodome. The show includes several stages with different bands all playing at once and includes groups such as A Static Lullaby, Amber Pacific, Bayside, Coheed and Cambria, Cute Is What We Aim For, Hawthorne Heights, New Found Glory, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, The Spill Canvas, Underoath and many, many more. This usually runs all day and tickets are about $30.

For all you country fans out there, the annual WE Fest is back in Detroit Lakes, MN on August 2-4. Tickets alone cost about $140, with camping passes starting at $55 and parking passes at about $15. Performers include Keith Urban, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Carrie Underwood, The Wreckers and Trace Adkins, among others.
