Cadwell leaving?
The men’s basketball team heads into summer workouts with some new and old faces. The most well known face is Ben Beran, who played for the Jacks for three years before sitting this past year out. Beran returns to the Jacks in his fifth year, giving the team a much needed inside presence.
Cottonwood expands to bistro
Cottonwood Coffee plans to expand its business by opening in a second location closer to campus. Owners Jacob Limmer and Sarah Trone are working to open a “Cottonwood Bistro” in the Brickwood Plaza on Sixth Street. “It will be more like a bistro with the same quality coffee as Cottonwood,” Limmer said.
Recycling program recently upgraded
SDSU’s recycling program had a successful first year and hopes to expand next year. Student Association began the recycling program in residence halls last year. In the past, the program consisted of recycling dumpsters next to trash dumpsters. Andrew Natzel, head of the campus recycle program, said students were confused which one was for recycling and which was for trash.
Spring game shows off 2007 Jacks
South Dakota State ended their spring practice with the offense defeating the defense 34-28 in the annual intra-squad game. Both sides of the ball had their moments, but the most important thing was that no one was seriously injured. The defense dominated early, giving up only one play of more than 10 yards before quarterback Ryan Berry connected with wide receiver Chris Doblar on a 25-yard pass and wide receiver JaRon Harris on a 44-yard strike on consecutive plays to end the first quarter.
Movie trilogies ending
I love summer beyond any other season, not only because of no classes, nice weather and barbecued food. Summer also features some of the biggest and best movies of the entire year. This is when studios unveil the movies that will pay salaries for the rest of the year.

STARS help others learn to ride horses
For the past 13 summers, a group of very special people has gathered at the Circle H Ranch to provide a therapeutic horsemanship program to people with developmental disabilities in Brookings and the surrounding area. STARS, an acronym for Special Training And Riding Skills, aims to teach basic horsemanship skills to its riders while also providing them with physical benefits.
Holy Cowbell
The 2006-07 SDSU Varsity sporting year was a memorable and exciting one. Individual and team efforts this year have brought much success, pride and excitement in Jackrabbit country for fans and the athletes alike. “I think the fan excitement was pretty positive this year,” said SDSU Athletic Director Fred Oien.
The many beliefs of an opinionated columnist
I believe in many things. And during the past few years, I have inundated you, the loyal readers (my parents), with my views. However, I have not been able to fully disclose all of my beliefs. So, in honor of Kevin Costner’s speech in “Bull Durham,” here is what I believe.
Frisbee team wins four
Playing against international opponents, the SDSU ultimate frisbee team finished 5th place out of 14 teams in a tournament at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The frisbee team had one win and two losses in pool play on April 28. The club lost to Minnesota State University-Mankato and a club from Winnipeg, the eventual champion of the tournament.
