The Brookings Arts Council will be holding a talent showcase on Monday, April 23.
The show will feature many different acts, including poetry, belly dancing and vocals, by many community members.
Micah Wetzel, an SDSU senior, will perform a song at the show.
“I like the fact that it’s more city-wide oriented,” said Wetzel. “It’s a way for the city of Brookings to be able to hear me play rather than just students.”
The show will cater to all ages because it includes more than just SDSU students. The showcase try-outs are open to the public, therefore allowing a wider range of talent.
“The talent showcase is a great opportunity for the high school, SDSU and the local communities to share their talents with audience members and the Brookings community,” said Vicki Schuster, BAC executive director.
The showcase is also a great opportunity for performers to gain experience in front of crowds.
Kayla Tingle, a 15-year-old Elkton High School freshman, admits that she’s a bit nervous about singing in front of a lot of people.
“I want to become a singer, so I have to get used to singing in front of crowds,” said Tingle. “I’ve been singing since I was about 10, though, so I’ve been getting used to it.”
The show will be at the Performing Arts Center and will start at 7:30 p.m with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.
