Volleyball, soccer gear up for 2007 season during spring camps

Spring is here, and so are the spring seasons for the volleyball and soccer teams. The spring season is where teams work on new plays, team set-ups and getting experience for the younger players. Volleyball is allowed four play dates and soccer is allowed five dates, in which they may play up to three games a day.

Dairy bar receives new look, thanks to corporate partners

The dairy bar is getting a whole new look and brand new equipment, thanks to the partnering of the dairy science department and several corporations. When the department announced plans to remodel in early 2006, only three corporate sponsors – Wells Blue Bunny, Davisco Foods International, Inc.

After hosting the Jacks’ win over Indiana by the women’s basketball team on Thursday, Frost Arena transformed overnight. Hoops were lifted, booths were put in place and the sea of blue and yellow was replaced with the colors of 48 of the world’s countries during the 25th annual SDSU Festival of Cultures.

Agriculture event offers opportunities for everyone

One of SDSU’s largest student organizations only gets to shine one weekend a year. March 30 and 31 is the weekend those students will put an entire year’s worth of planning into action. Little International, otherwise known as Little I, is an annual tradition at SDSU that incorporates high-school and college students as well as advisers, alumni and families.

Student falls victim to housing scam

An SDSU graduate was recently the victim of an email hoax. Kelly Stieben, a music merchandising graduate from Brandon, advertised her apartment for rent on the SDSU off-campus housing Web site, but the person she was in contact with never sent money and never showed up.

Vogel leaves Legacy at SDSU

All alone, standing just off to the side of her team’s huddle after fouling out with 45 seconds remaining, senior Megan Vogel fights back her tears, fearing she will never again don the blue and yellow of the Jackrabbits. Her teammates could not overcome their eight-point deficit, bringing the brilliant career of Megan Vogel to an end on March 25.

Students fight flu at SDSU

You know that feeling. Your head hurts, your body aches and you have chills. And you’re not alone. Student health staff have seen a spring surge of Influenza A on campus, according to Brenda Andersen, associate director of SDSU Student Health and Counseling.

Jacks fans welcome team home

As the women’s basketball team rode the bus home from Laramie, Wyo., after a 70-59 loss to the University of Wyoming Cowgirls, SDSU fans planned a welcome-back bash for the team. When the players stepped off the bus, they stepped into Frost Arena and in front of more than 200 cheering fans, clapping and showing their support for a great season.

Tech school leadership to remain the same

The Senate voted to override a veto by Gov. Mike Rounds of a new governance plan for the state’s technical schools. The House was five votes short of overriding his veto and the bill failed. Senate Bill 95 created a State Board of Technical Institutes and transferred authority over the schools from the Department of Education to the new board.

SI’ goes beyond tutoring to give some students teaching experience

Anatomy (Biology 221) is notoriously known for being a challenging course. Between keeping the vesicle and the ventricles of the brain straight, students look for additional help. Lucky for them, they don’t have to look far because that help can be found in supplemental instruction (SI).
