One of South Dakota’s pioneers in women’s sports has decided to retire from SDSU. After nearly 25 years as a coach and administrator, Nancy Neiber has decided to leave SDSU June 21.
Neiber has left her mark on SDSU, both on the administrative level and with the students.
“South Dakota State University is a better place because of Nancy Neiber,” said SDSU Athletic Director Fred Oien.
Neiber first made her mark as a Jackrabbit as the women’s head basketball coach. She coached the women for more than 15 seasons, collecting a 301-140 career record. She led the Jacks to six NCAA Division-II postseason appearances and was named Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Division-II, DistrictVII coach of the year in 1995.
After stepping down as women’s head coach, Neiber became SDSU’s first senior woman administrator in 2000.
Now that she is retiring, Neiber said she plans to “do what I want to do, when I want to do it.”
