The local music scene hits hard once again this week as shows gather not only in Sioux Falls but Brookings as well.
Sioux Falls native, We All Have Hooks For Hands have an upcoming show at Nutty’s North in their hometown. A culmination of several broken-up bands, We All Have Hooks For Hands reached their final line up with nine musicians: Eli Show (singer/guitar), Isaac Show (drums), Tory Stollen (drums), Tim Evenson (singer/guitar), Logan Borchardt (guitar), Tony Helland (bass), Dave Lethcoe (horn section/keyboards) Brent Hardie (horn section/keyboards) and Michael Graber (violin).
The boys decided to gather together in the hopes of making plain, fun music.
“Eli Show wrote a song which was recorded in his dad’s apartment and later more members were added to create a larger sound,” Hardie said.
All the members currently attend The University of South Dakota except Isaac Show, who lives in Sioux Falls, and Hardie, who calls the great South Dakota State University his home.
We All Have Hooks For Hands has a CD coming out soon on Afternoon Records (out of Minneapolis). Although Hardie has said their music is “hardcore gangster rap” explaining that they tend to swear a lot, their MySpace samples give off more of a folk/jazzy sound. And with a horn section, their live sets are bound to be different.
“We try and re-invent space and time,” jokes Hardie. “Basically, we just want to get laid.”
We All Have Hooks For Hands’ show is on Feb. 9. The first half, starting at 6 p.m. is all ages and includes The Plastic Constellations and Building Better Bombs (featuring P.O.S.) and costs $6. The second half of the show is 21 and up, with doors opening at 9:30 p.m. The Quaker City Night Hawks will entertain for $6 as well.
