The South Dakota State wrestling team succeeded in their western trip, bringing home two landslide victories.

In their first meet out west, the Jacks defeated Pacific University, 41-6.

The only match the Jacks lost in the contest was at 133 pounds. South Dakota State forfeited the weight class by not wrestling anybody.

During the match, the Jacks recorded three pin falls and two technical falls. Alan Marvin, Brad Gregory and Andy Everson scored the pin falls for the Jacks.

Portland State was the Jackrabbits’ next victim. The Vikings fell to the Jacks, 38-3. In the 197-pound weight class, Travis Gottschalk lost in overtime. Gottschalk’s defeat was the Jacks’ only blemish in the match.

Dan Bonte and Jason Stripling recorded pin falls for the Jacks against Portland State.

The wrestlers return home for a pair of dual meets on Feb. 2 and 3. Eastern Illinois travels to Frost Arena for a dual on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Jacks welcome Northern Colorado next on Saturday afternoon, for a dual meet at 3 p.m.
