Wrestling team achieves historic win with victory over Utah Valley State

The SDSU wrestling team has been capturing victory after victory durinthe past few weeks. With big wins at the Virginia Duals, and a good showing against Utah Valley State at home last weekend, the team has upped its record to 5-4 going into the second half of the season.

Lady Jacks finish series 1-1 against Minot

The Lady Jacks battled Minot State to a weekend split on Jan. 20 and 21. In the first game of the series, the Jacks gave up a lead and lost the game 6-4. In the second game, the Jacks blew another lead, but Ashley Verdeck tied the score with 30 seconds remaining in the game.

David Chicoine moves in, gets down to business with the budget

The bare office walls and a desk covered in neat stacks of paper told the story: there’s a new SDSU president in town. The emptiness stands in stark contrast to the office of former Pres. Peggy Miller, which was filled with paintings, photos and mementos.

Students move past trial

A month after the not guilty verdict, the student-athletes involved in an alleged on-campus rape continue to pick up the pieces after a year that shook their lives. The female student continues to defend her account of the case as she proceeds with her education and volleyball career at SDSU.

Men skate past St. Cloud in weekend series

The men’s hockey club faced off against the St. Cloud State Huskies on Jan. 19 and 20 at Larson Ice Center. The Huskies are a division above the Jacks, but the SDSU team went undefeated in their two-game series with St. Cloud. In the first game of the series, the Jackrabbits won 5-2.

Geography professor brings students to ‘the other side’

Most people who aren’t science majors dread the thought of taking a science class. Many students end up taking geography classes as an alternative to other options, like chemistry. However, for students looking for something more exciting than learning the different crusts of the Earth, there is hope.

Student awarded for volunteer work with Brookings Community Theatre

One SDSU student has been recognized for her involvement in the Brookings community. Pharmacy major Stacy DeVille received an award from SDSU’s Service Learning program. Service Learning is a part of the Office for Diversity Enhancement. According to the program’s Web site, students perform services and reach educational objectives by combining community and academic studies.

Bauman to represent state, SDSU in Miss America pageant next week

Former Miss SDSU and reigning Miss South Dakota Callee Bauman will represent South Dakota in the 2007 Miss America pageant in Las Vegas, Nev. Bauman, a speech communications major from Huron, has been climbing the pageant ladder since being crowned Miss SDSU last spring.
