Regents question higher price for off-campus programs

PIERRE- It would be up to the Legislature to decide whether tuition at off-campus programs should continue to cover the cost of those courses, a state lawmaker says. Jerry Apa, R-Lead, said Jan. 22 the self-support system has been a long-standing agreement between the Legislature and the Board of Regents.

The women’s basketball team had a busy winter break, with both controversial and lucrative results. During the break, the team went 5-3, with big road wins against Alabama and Minnesota. Currently, the team sports a 15-5 record, with ten games remaining.

South Dakota’s I-3 Internet plan boosted by $8 million donation

Gov. Mike Rounds on Jan. 9 announced that a donation will help connect the state university system and other states to a technology upgrade that many think is needed to lure a national underground physics laboratory to the Black Hills. The Great Plains Education Foundation will donate $8 million to connect the universities and the state government system to the so-called I-3 Internet, Rounds said in his State of the State address to the 2007 Legislature.

With an abundance of youth, freshmen forced to play key role

SDSU’s men are growing up in a hurry-at least the basketball players are. While battling injuries and inexperience, the Jacks have started 10 different players, including as many as four freshmen in a single game. With only two seniors on the team, guards Jose Frias and Andy Kleinjan, the young players have been forced to play more minutes than freshmen would normally play.

Basketball team returns home with improved play

The men’s basketball team doubled their win total during the semester break, defeating both the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Montana State in consecutive games. After the two wins, the inexperienced team has dropped four straight games, bringing their season record to 4-14.

Big-time program boasts big-time atmosphere

On Jan. 14, I had the opportunity and privilege to attend the SDSU versus University of Minnesota basketball game at Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minn. Not only did I get to witness a great basketball game, but as a sports reporter, I was able to experience the game in a way I couldn’t have at Frost Arena.
