Dear editor, it is vitally important that if you are going to cover Amendment C, you include the Amendment in its entirety. First of all, this Amendment will NOT legalize gay marriage. It is now, and will be after Nov. 7, ILLEGAL.
The second part of Amendment C which you neglected to mention goes like this, ” … the uniting of two or more persons in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other ‘quasi-marital’ relationship shall not be valid or recognized in South Dakota”.
The second part proposes many problems including the effect on domestic abuse protection, health benefits, hospital visitation rights and senior citizens living together for mutual care. It also will instigate legal challenges in the fact that judges are now going to have to determine what made-up terms like “quasi-marital” means.
I encourage everyone to take an educated stance on Amendment C and vote NO on November 7.
