Departed’ delves into dark humor
The critics have hailed it as “grandly twisted” and “splattered with moments of pure, dead-eyed, blood-soaked Scorsesean violence.” I definitely agree on both fronts. “The Departed” is the darkest, bloodiest movie I’ve seen in a great while. Despite the fact that the film is disturbingly violent and at times sadistic, I loved it and highly recommend it! “The Departed” is directed by the multiple-Oscar nominated Martin Scorsese.
Parade policy provokes confusion
At issue: Political candidates and campus groups have received conflicting instuctions about Hobo Day parade participation. Our view: The Hobo Day Committee needs to set forth a clear parade policy from the beginning, and make sure everyone stays on the same page.
Brul
Among the popular theories of the origin of the term HOBO, I chose the contraction of HOmeward BOund. There is only one reason for opting that. This article is about Brul
Pro-life/choice? I am.
With the onslaught of campaigning about the abortion ban, I feel compelled to share my story. Abortion is not a black and white issue – there are many shades of gray. And it is possible to be pro-life and pro-choice at the same time. I have not yet seen anything which addresses my situation.
Letter to the Editor: Admendment C
When Ohio passed a similar constitutional amendment in 2004, women abused by their boyfriends could not file domestic violence charges, because the only relationship the state would recognize was between a husband and wife. A NO vote on Amendment C would ensure that we don’t weaken South Dakota’s domestic violence laws, and that we will maintain protections for women against domestic abuse.
Letter to the Editor: Vote No on Referred Law 6
When voting on Nov. 7, please remember that the state’s proposed abortion ban contains NO exceptions for the health of the mother. If a pregnant mother is not allowed by law to seek safe treatment for a serious illness, that hurts her family. We need to keep all safe options available to pregnant women health is in danger.
Who gets to kiss the babies?
A lack of clear communication has created confusion about who can participate in Saturday’s Hobo Day parade. In an election year, two campus political groups say they have been given different rules for parade participation, and one candidate said he has been turned away.
Letter to the Editor: Syllabus
In the Oct. 18 issue of The Collegian, an article (“Syllabus statement draws fire,” A1) explained how the new addition into the syllabus gives students more power and how it was approved without faculty input. Some faculty members were quoted on how they disagree.
Letter to the Editor: Abortion
Abortion Pro-choice is not pro-abortion. Pro-choice is about who should make the choice. We need to understand why women seek abortions before we can stop them. Are they trying to avoid the drama of unwed pregnancy? If so, then we need to be more compassionate and less judgmental.
Men not all bad: They’re not afraid to brave the Giant Mutant Diaper smell
I know it may seem as if I come down too hard on guys sometimes. But today, God reminded me that He loves guys too. Men are such funny creatures. I will never understand them, but I do appreciate them more and more as I see them through God’s eyes. The other day I was watching “According to Jim” on TV.
